There are many ways to learn to fly RC planes but let's stick with the easy stuff for now.
I recomend FMS flight simulator for your computer as you can't beat the price (FREE).
FMS can be used with a simple cheap joystick or even most common RC transmitters with the right cable. FMS comes with planes to fly on it already and there's over 10,000 other planes to download and try out as you wish. The best part of this is its all FREE, FREE, FREE.
While some are gifted and can fly just about anything most need a little help learning how.
Who wants to spend $150 on a plane only to have it stay in the air for 5 seconds and is destroyed in the resulting crash? Do your crashing on the computer as it's cheaper, more fun, and there's no mess to clean up after. Once you get use to FMS and your chosen plane try a few others and if you can take off and land 4 or 5 planes your transition to radio control should be much smoother. Let's start off with the needed links below.

Everything you need to know about getting started can be found:
Here

If you spend a little time to read the sticky notes on RC Groups while flying on FMS most can pick it up fairly fast. If you're having trouble getting FMS setup on your're computer ask a kid. Seems they play lots of games and pick this stuff up really fast. No kids around? Borrow one or ask for help on RC Groups and your problem should be solved pretty quick. This is by no means a complete guide to getting started and you should read up before making any purchase. Please remember that this is all about having fun and the more you know about this hobby the better off you are. There's also a safety aspect you have to think about for yourself and those around you. After all who wants to run for their lives from their own plane !!!
